Spanish Club
The Spanish Club is organized by Mrs. Yacubik, Mahanoy Area's spanish teacher. They participate in town functions and activities. There is a president and a vice president elected.
French Club
The French club is led by Mrs. Rohart, Mahanoy Area's french teacher. They participate in activities along with the spanish club. In early 2005 they raised enough money through fundraisers that they traveled to France on a field trip.
Sewing Club
The family and consumer science teacher, Mrs. Hescox arranges the sewing club. This club is in its second year. They meet after school and learn differnt techniques and make several projects.
SADD Club
SADD stands for Students Against Destructive Desicions. They try to help students make positive desicions which include not to drink or do drugs. A major activity that they run is the lock-in. Whoever signs up for this gets to stay over night in the school gym. During this they play games and do other activities. This club is led by Mrs. Stone.
Juniorette Jewels
This club is a service organization. They help in communitite service projects which include meals on wheels and visitations to the elderly. Mrs. Fallon is the head of this club.
Nutrion Advisory Council
The members help in activities and whenever there is help needed in the kitchen. They provide and hand out food for people who have participated in the blood drive.
Teens Against Tobacco
This club is made up of students who try to educate students of all grades about tobacco. They inform them about the dangers and harmful consequences of all tobacco products.
Bear Facts
This club writes the school newspaper. They publish a school newspaper monthly. It is titled "Bear Facts."
Areascope
This club takes pictures throughout the entire school year for the yearbook. They attend sporting events, job sites, and many other places to get pictures and help put the yearbook together.
Sparc
This club helps students prepare themselves for college. They take practice tests and do different assignments to help them raise their SAT's scores and get into the college of their choice.
Student Council
Each grade has their own elections where they elect two students from each homeroom. This group represents our school and makes decisions on behalf of the student body.
National Honor Society
This is for all students in grades 11 and 12 who have kept themselves on honor roll throughout high school. To be in this elete group, you must meet all of the requirement our school has. You have to maintain a 3.3 GPA, have less than 3 detentions, and be involved in the community. Every member has one warning if they do not meet the requirements in a marking period. The next time you do not meet the requirements, you are kicked off
Shop Club
This is organized by Mr. Donnelly. There are four cabinet positions. They fundraise throughout the year and go on different fields trips.
High School Chorus
The high school chorus is made up of students from grade 9-12. Auditions are not required to be a member of this chorus. they perform a Christmas concert, spring concert, and two selections at graduation. There is also a group of 12 selected singers called the Chordaires. You must audition to be part of this group. They also perform at various community events.
Ski Club
The ski club makes six trips to Big Boulder Ski Resort and two ski trips to Blue Mountain Ski Resort, on fridays at the end of the school day. The ski club gives the students of the Mahanoy Area School District the opportuinity to learn something really fun. Beginners are required to take a lesson, and it is recommended that you wear a helmet! It is run by Cheryl Fegley, and the ski club is shaperoned by teachers, and staff members in the school district.
